10. Knives- a great set of chef’s knives, or even just one- is much appreciated for any foodie on your list.

9. Playstation 3- Courtesy of the boyfriend- it’s tops on his list for 2010.

8. 27″ imac- very few people will get this one for christmas, but one can dream.

7. A knitted scarf- a scarf is super easy to knit, and you can do it while you’re watching TV. Last year I knitted my dad a scarf while watching seasons one through three of the Wire.

6. IKEA gift certificate- Everyone needs a gift certificate from IKEA. They have taper candles. They have plants. This is a nice easy alternative to movie or Chapters GC’s.

5. Anything from Etsy-

4. A really good travel mug/thermos- SIGG makes some gorgeous ones. And they aren’t the crappy kind like they have at Starbucks. They last for ever, and they are perfectly sleek and sealed so you can slip them into your purse.

3. A flask- On the subject of drink holders to slip into your purse- everybody needs a good flask. You can even accompany it with a nice whiskey or tequila if you feel like splurging and rounding out the theme.

2. A canned gift basket- I canned all summer and fall- I’ve got gorgeous organic tomato sauce, poached pears in light sirup with vanilla bean, sauerkraut, onion chutney and spicy green beans. Requires some advanced prep certainly, but everyone loves a homemade gift that they can eat (wayyyy after the christmas feast is done).

1. Concert tickets- I am going to take my mom to the symphony for a holiday treat, I think I might also buy my brother and his wife tickets to Steve Earle in Seattle in January. If you know the taste of your giftee pretty well, this is a nice present that usually goes over really well.
